| Tactical Paramedics respond with the Sheriffs Office SWAT Team and are considered a direct and essential component of the specialized tactical team. Their mission is to provide support to deputies, suspects and any innocent bystanders at law enforcement incidents.
Providing out-of-hospital care in the austere environment of a tactical law enforcement mission requires special judgment and skills not taught in standard EMT curricula. Therefore, all tactical paramedics have completed rigorous training through the EMT-Tactical course (EMT-T). In addition to delivering medical care in the 'hot zone,' tactical medics also coordinate physician intervention when medical situations arise as a result of prolonged scene events. They communicate with the EMS command post to constantly ensure adequate medical resources are maintained at a safe, but near distance should their services be needed.
