Okaloosa County Joint Water Rescue Team

The Okaloosa County Joint Water Rescue Team is a division of the Public Safety Department that is logistically unique due to the team members being a blend of Paramedics, Deputies, and Fire Fighters from within Okaloosa County.

The first in the state to be certified for swift-water rescue, its overall mission includes the ability to search for and rescue victims from the worst of environments. The program consists of three rescue disciplines. Water Rescue focuses on, but is not limited to, moving water incidents. The team trains on the release side of hydroelectric dams to get the feel for swift moving flood conditions. Many of our waterways are in rural and even wilderness settings, so to be prepared for these kinds of incidents the team is trained in Search and Rescue as well as High Angle rope skills. Each individual on the team has dedicated himself physically and mentally to prepare for the challenges of getting in harm's way to save a life.
