Commissioner John Jannazo was elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 2006 for his first term. John (or Jazz), and his family have been proud to call Okaloosa County home since 1993. Jannazo's liaison appointments include the following committees:
Community: Florida Association of Counties, Transportation Planning Organization; Research Technology Campus (REEF); Tri-County Community Council; Choctaw Basin Alliance; Strategic Planning Initiative; Elder Services; Public Safety Council Committee
County: Information Systems, Sheriff, Risk Management; Corrections
A retired Air Force Officer, his service at Eglin AFB included flying F-15s as a squadron commander with the 33rd Fighter Wing, and a System Program Director responsible for Air Force test and training ranges systems. In addition to his military career, before he was elected to the Commission, John spent four years as the corporate business development director of a national defense manufacturing company, and has enjoyed instructing several college courses in our Okaloosa High Schools as part of the Aviation CHOICE program. Jazz holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, and master’s degree in Modern US History. He continues to work in the national defense industry on many new programs dealing with Northwest Florida military complex. Jazz is always active in the local community at many levels to include scouting, coaching, church and various community and social organizations.
Commissioner Jannazo has three grown children. His oldest son Tony is flying B-52s for the USAF Air Combat Command in North Dakota. His son Joey is a graduate of Florida State and teaches/coaches at Pryor Middle School. His daughter Katie is also an Air Force officer, working as a developmental program manager/engineer for Air Force Material Command at Hanscom AFB, MA.
