Kelly Windes, Commissioner District V

Commissioner Kelly Windes is a lifelong Destin area resident and a third generation Destin fisherman.  He graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in 1964 and attended Okaloosa-Walton Junior College.  He served his country as a Quartermaster in the United States Navy aboard the USS PERRY DD844.  He has recently retired after being a full-time charter boat captain for 50 years.  In 1994 and 2012 he had the honor of being awarded Destin Businessman of the Year by the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce, for a collaborate effort by Destin fishermen to preserve their livelihood in the vital fishing industry through development of the Destin  Fishing Fleet Marina. He also has ownership interests in several other businesses.

As a successful businessman, he is well-qualified with many of the county duties including but not limited to budgets, long-term planning, and development. Commissioner Windes would like to thank the many friends and fishing customers from Destin, Mary Esther, Fort Walton Beach, Shalimar, Niceville, Crestview, Baker, Blackman, Laurel Hill and the surrounding communities who encouraged and supported him, and looks forward to serving as the District 5 county commissioner.

He has been married for 30+ years to Mary Anne Windes, the owner and broker of Real Estate Professionals of Destin, Inc.  They have two adult children, Trey and Missy Windes and 2 grandchildren all of who have chosen Okaloosa County as their permanent residence. 

Commissioner Windes’ favorite charity is the Bob Hope Air Force Enlisted Village.
